Coaching Staff


Coach Flannery is a graduate of Iowa State University with a BA in Spanish and will receive his Masters degree in Coaching in Physical Education from Ball State University in May of 2008. He was a member of the ISU Men's Swim team and captain for the 1998 season. He was a member of the Big 8 Championship team in 1995 and the undefeated team in 1998. Coach Flannery was a high school All-American in the 200 Freestyle and swam for Johnston High School in Des Moines. He has been head coach of the AHS Girls swim program since 2002, and the boys program since 1998. He and his wife Jodi have two boys, Joe (3) and Tommy (1).

Christine was a 4 year letter winner, 4 year state qualifier and placed top 16 at state all 4 years she swam at Ames High. Her specialities were the 500 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 100 fly. She is a 2005 graduate of Iowa State University with a BS in Exercise and Sports Science. She has been Coach Flannery's assistant for the AHS girls from 2001-2005, and has been the AHS boys assistant since 2005. Christine also coaches Central Iowa Aquatics in Des Moines and manages and trains athletes at Acceleration Iowa- a sports enhancement facility. Christine married Josh Hale on January 1, 2007.

Tyler was a two year letter winner and two year state alternate under Coach Flannery before graduating from Ames High in 2003. His favorite events were the 200 freestyle, 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke. He is a 2007 graduate of Iowa State University with a BS in Psychology. Last fall was his first year helping the girls' team and he also assisted the boys' team in winter, as well as coaching ACAC and the Ames Golf and Country Club teams this summer.
