Dan Flannery, Head Coach

Coach Flannery is a graduate of Iowa State University and also has his Masters degree in Coaching and Physical Education from Ball State University. Dan was a member of the ISU Men's Swim Team including Big 8 Championship team in 1995 and Captain of the undefeated team in 1998.  Coach Flannery was a high school All-American in the 200 Freestyle and swam for Johnston High School in Des Moines. He has been head coach of the AHS Girls swim program since 2002, and the boys program since 1998.  2010 marked Dan's coaching debute as the Co-Head Coach of the Ames High Boys Tennis Team (but he guarantees us his first love is still swimming, just ask him!).  He and his wife, Jodi, have three children.  Two boys, Joe and Tommy, and a daughter, Leah.

 


Abby Van Maaren, Assistant Coach

Coach Abby is a graduate of the University of Iowa with a Liberal Arts degree double major in Health and Sports Studies.  She was a member of the U of I Swim Team where she swam the 3rd fastest 50 Free in school history.  Coach Abby was a member of the Little Cyclones Swim Team from 1997-2001.  She coached on the Iowa City Eels Club Team and was the Head Coach on the Cedar Rapids Prairie-Williamsburg Swim Team from 2005-06. Upon completion of her Surgical Technology Certificate at DMACC Coach Abby took on her "Nurse Abby" role in addition to her "Coach Abby " role and works at Mary Greeley Medical Center here in Ames.
